Happy ourth of July! Just thought I would share a Patriotic project with you today. I make lots of cards, but I also make other paper projects too! If you like to decorate for the holidays, this project can be used for the Fourth of July, Veterans Day or Memorial Day. Of if you like to be Patriotic all year round, just hang it up right where everyone can see!
Just a quick disclaimer….I did use retired items to make this 8″ x 8″ Shadow Box Sampler. This is why I keep (and use) products that I love even though they are not current. There is no shame in that. Sometimes it’s just fun to play with what you have! I used two retired die sets to make this project – Stitched Stars Dies and Large Letter Dies.
The Stitched Stars Dies were in a holiday catalog as part of a Christmas Stamp Set Bundle. I never bought the stamp set, but I loved the dies, so I only bought those. When you are looking at the catalog, check out all the die sets too! Sometimes there are hidden gems like these that can be used for all different occasions! Even if the stamp set isn’t your jam, you can always purchase the dies seperately. I snagged the The Large Letter Dies when they were on the Clearance List a few years ago. It’s always worth checking the Clearance page, especially when Stampin’ Up! does a “refresh” and lists new items!
I cut one of each of the stars and one of each of the letters in “USA” out of Real Red, Night of Navy and Basic White Cardstock and then I started playing with all the combinations. I liked the layered look with the intricate cut stars the same color as the solid stars. (Hint: Use Adhesive Sheets with your cardstock and then cut the intricate & “scroll-y” stars. They are so much easier to adhere than using Multipurpose Liquid Glue!)
But I wasn’t done yet. Remember I said I had die cut ALL the stars? I had plenty left over. I had purchased Wooden Stars from the Dollar Spot at Target a few weeks ago. There were three in the package – one was white and the other two were grayish brown. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with them until I saw my pile of stars. And guess what? the Stitched Stars were the exact size to fit on my wooden stars! So I started layering them in different combintations until I had ones that had a red, a white and a blue background.
I did use some acrylic paint and a sponge brush to paint the brown ones white then I adhered the layered stars with Multipurpose Liquid Glue, added some sparkle with a few rhinestones and ta-da! A set of three stars to decorate my mantle or maybe a table for a Fourth of July party!
But I still had more die cut stars left. I remembered that I had a box of mini easel stands that I had purchased from an AC Moore store when it was going out of business. The easels are about 4 1/2″ tall and 3 1/2″ wide. And they are red, white and blue….perfect for another Patriotic project right?
I did have to die cut more letters, so I chose to cut some from Red, Silver and Blue Foil and even threw in some Real Red Glimmer paper for some of the letters and the hearts (that is another retired Die Set). I cut some cardstock (3 1/2″ x 3 1/4″) for the background to layer my stars and letters, added some ribbon to the clip, and lots of Rhinestones for added sparkle.
I’m all ready for a party!….or a backyard barbeque!
Hope you have a safe and wonderful Fourth of Juy!
Happy Stamping!
Patricia
