I was looking through all my pictures on my phone. I take alot….like thousands. I am especially bad when I take a trip….I’ll have hundreds by the end of the day. I love to look at them because it takes me back to all the fun memories. But since we have not traveled in the past year, my phone is instead cluttered with pictures of cards. While other people might whip out their phones to show you pictures of loved ones….I have pictures of my cards. I found a few that I have not shared with you, so let me take you back to see some cards that are made with retired stamp sets (and retired paper!) like this one:
The thing is just because a stamp set is retired, or a Designer Series Paper is retired, doesn’t mean you can’t use it. Use it up! And even if you do not own this stamp set or papers, you can still use the card design with another stamp set or papers that you might own. (And I say that more to encourage myself to use up all the bits and bobs of paper I have stored….neatly stored, but stored none-the-less and to use my stamp sets that I like and have kept a bit more often. People that are on the receiving end of your cards will not know if a paper or stamp set is retired.
The stamp set I used is called Pretty Perennials. It just retired from the 2020-2021 Annual Catalog in May. There is also a coordinating set of dies called Perennial Petals that I used to die cut the flowers and also the greenery on the card.
The black and white paper I used is from the True Love Designer Series Paper. Although this set of papers is now retired, one of the new sets of Designer Series Papers that is coming in the new July-December Mini Catalog is also all black and white and would make a great substitute for the papers used in this card. (I have to wait until August 3rd to show you!)
One of my favorite color combinations is Black and Turquoise….so the Bermuda Bay ink that I used to stamp the flowers was a perfect fit.
And to keep the card nice and bright and happy, I stamped a few of the leaves using Granny Apple Green ink and then die cut a few using Granny Apple Green Cardstock. I did do a little fussy cutting of the word “Happy” and then just cut around the “sending lots of” words so I could layer those both together on the card using dimensionals. The large flowers are also adhered to the card with dimensionals and then I just put a bit of Multipurpose Liquid glue on the ends and tucked the leaves behind the flowers.
If you would like to make this card, these are the supplies that you will need:
- Pretty Perennials Stamp Set (or something similar)
- Perennial Petals Dies
- Basic Black Cardstock – Cut 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″; Score and fold at 4 1/4″
- Bermuda Bay Cardstock – Cut 5 1/4″ x 4″
- True Love Designer Series Paper –
- Pattern #1 – Cut 5″ x 3 3/4″ and cut 6″ x 2 1/2″ (envelope flap)
- Pattern #2 – Cut 5″ x 1 1/2″
- Basic White Cardstock –
- Cut 5 1/4″ x 4″ (inside)
- Scraps for flowers, leaves and sentiment
- Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black and Bermuda Bay
- Stampin’ Blends Markers – Daffodil Delight (flower center) – optional
- Adhesive: Stampin’ Seal or Multipurpose Liquid Glue, Dimensionals
- Tools: Paper Trimmer, Paper Snips, Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine
If you are trying to use up your Designer Series paper, and excellent way is to use some of it to decorate the flaps of your envelope. It doesn’t take much…just a 6″ x 2 1/2″ strip.
Lay the envelope out flat and then place a thin line of Multipurpose Liquid Glue around the edge of the flap. Position the paper so the long edge is up against there the envelope flap folds. Then use Paper Snips to cut off the excess paper….and voila! (Hint: If you are using a paper that has a directional pattern, make sure that when the flap is closed, the paper is right side up! I might have made that mistake a time or two….or more!
Happy Stamping!

COMING SOON! – JULY-DEC MINI CATALOG
Are you wondering why the new July-December Mini Catalog isn’t out yet?…..after all it is already July. The answer is that due to shipping, some of the products in the new Mini catalog were not going to be available by the time the catalog was supposed to launch in July. In an effort to not disappoint customers, Stampin’ Up! changed the launch date to August 3rd. The catalogs had already been printed, hence the name on the cover. Catalogs have been shipped to my house and I’m trying to figure out a way to get them out to my customers as the catalogs are in Virginia and I am currently in Arizona. I might have to enlist the help of my husband….hmmmm we will see how that goes! If you are interested in receiving the new Mini Catalog and do not already receive one from another demonstrator, please go to my catalog tab (at the top of my blog) and request a copy!

This card is so beautiful. This is one of my favorite stamp and die sets! Too bad it wasn’t carried over to the new catalog! I just found your blog, can’t remember how, but I’m glad I did.
I know! I’m disappointed it wasn’t carried over too, but I intend to keep using it! Glad you found my blog…I find blogs I like by accident too sometimes. And Thanks for subscribing!!
