Halloween is tomorrow, so this is my last Halloween card that I’ll be sharing this year! It’s a bit of a non-traditional card in that the colors are not ones that I usually associate with Halloween….which is mainly black and orange. This card has the Halloween images (I just love those little owls), but I chose the colors for this card based on the background paper which is blue, red and white. Sounds more like a Fourth of July card doesn’t it?

This paper is part of the
Plaid Tidings Designer Series Papers which has a mixture of fall and winter color combinations. This is also one of 15 select Designers Series Papers that are currently on sale!….15% off! But the sale ends tomorrow, October 31st, so hurry up and get your order in today! (See how to place an order at the end of this post!)

I used the
Have a Hoot Stamp Set and the coordinating
Peek-A-Hoot Dies to make this card. The fun thing about the die set is the frame die. Not only does it cut all three of the frames at one time, but the inside of those frames make little tags! Those tags are perfect for small gifts and presents.

I’ve used those tags on several Halloween Treat boxes already. You can see one of those here:
Clear Mini Halloween Treat Boxes. And did you notice that the frames and the tags are both stitched around the outside?
So how did I manage to stamp those images inside the frames? It was easy. First I placed the die on the center of a piece of 4 3/4” x 3 1/2” piece of Whisper White Cardstock.

I then placed that piece with the cut outs on top of another piece of Whisper White Cardstock the same size. Using a pencil, I very lightly traced the openings onto the bottom piece. I used those pencil markings as a guide when I stamped the images. Once you have stamped your images, you can erase the pencil lines.

I used Stampin Blends to color the images and the background around the outside. You don’t need to color all of the Whisper White piece with the background color, only that part that will show through the frame “window”. I used a mixture of Seaside Spray and Balmy Blue to get the exact shade of blue I wanted. Even though each set of Stampin’ Blends come with a light and a dark shade, you can mix in other similar colors together.

My favorite image is the owl with the cape….I gave him a red cape to bring out the red stripes in the Plaid Tidings paper. I love to color, so this was a fun card to make.
