Welcome to November! Did you know that last year 1.17 Billion holiday cards were mailed? Yes, that is billion with a a capital “B!” If you haven’t started on your Christmas card making yet, now is the perfect time to start! And why not start with something fun! Here is the Pop-Up Box I shared last week on my Facebook Live.
My inspiration for this box is from another demonstrator who made a box full of gingerbread men cookies. Since I don’t own a gingerbread man stamp, I did a little brainstorming of what else comes in a box at Christmas. Ornaments!! When I was growing up, we had boxes of Shiny Brite ornaments. In fact I still have a few of these boxes of ornaments in my attic.
The boxes are not fancy,…just brown cardboard boxes with the words Shiny Brite on the outside. The magic was inside – small ball ornaments in shiny bright colors – gold, silver, red, green and blue. And I had the perfect stamp set and punches to make my ornaments – the Brightly Gleaming Stamp Set and coordinating Gleaming Ornaments Punch Pack.
I decided to be simple and used Real Red and Shaded Spruce Ink to stamp the ornaments on Whisper White Cardstock and used the Gleaming Ornament punches to make quick work of punching them out.
The box is made using two pieces of 6” x 4” pieces of Crumb Cake Cardstock and two more pieces cut 4 1/2” x 1/2” to make the two inner pieces used to hold the rows of ornaments.
If you would like to make this Pop-Up Box card, these are the supplies you will need:
Christmas Gleaming Stamp Set
Gleaming Ornaments Punch Pack
Crumb Cake Cardstock – Cut two pieces 6” x 4” – Score at 2 1/2” and 5 1/2”, plus cut two pieces 4 1/2” x 1/2” -score at 1/2” at each end.
Whisper White Cardstock – Cut 3 3/4” x 3 1/4”, plus a scrap for a tag.
‘Tis the Season Designer Series Paper – Cut two pieces 5” x 1 3/4” – Cut 1 3/4” off the end of each piece so you have two sets (1 3/4” x 1 3/4” and 3 1/4” x 1 3/4”)
Ornaments – need approx. 12 large and 4 small.
Coordinating Ribbon – About 16”
Ink: Real Red and Shaded Spruce
Adhesive: Stampin’ Seal and Glue Dots (to attach ornaments) also either Multipurpose Liquid glue or Tear & Tape (box assembly)
Tools: Paper Trimmer, Paper Snips
In case you were wondering about where you would sign this card….on the back! The Whisper White Cardstock piece that measures 3 3/4″ x 3 1/4″ fits right on the back for you to leave a Christmas message!
Use these diagrams to score and cut the two 6” x 4” pieces. Please note that they are NOT scored the same. For the first piece Score on the LONG side at 3 1/2” and 5 1/2” and Score on the SHORT side at 2”. For the second piece score on the LONGE side at 3 1/2” and 5 1/2” and score on the SHORT side only from the side to the second score line. (This piece is the back of the box). Using your paper snips, remove the areas shaded on black. This will give you a small tab on the bottom. Then cut on the 3 1/2” score line from the TOP to the middle score line to give you two of the box flaps. Repeat on the second piece.
And remember that this Pop-Up Box cards fits into an envelope too! Just fold it flat and slide it right in.

One of the fun things about this card is that you can fill it with anything you want – Snowflakes or Snowmen for a Winter Wonderland, balloons and candles for a birthday, hearts for Valentines Day are just a few examples. Or make a little scene – snowmen and trees for a winter theme or how about a Moose and a few trees?
Happy Stamping!
