2020-2022 Annual Catalog, Blank Card, Playful Pets, Stampin' Up!

Playful Pets – Cats & Dogs

A Demonstrator friend and I got together for an afternoon of crafting last week.  She wanted to try a new fun fold, so we watched a video she found of the fold and then we each made a card.  I wish I had a picture of hers as it was a complete opposite of mine.  After I got home, I decided that I was going to use the design for a Monday Funday card.  Monday Funday is a bit like a mystery card….I give my stampers a list of supplies and then we make the card together on Zoom…..but they have no idea what the card is going to look like until we start putting all the pieces together.  This is what they were told to bring:42C0AE09-1F37-4ECF-8B14-157A8D43D9FD

I showed them my supplies, plus gave them measurements to cut their own.  (I forgot to add dimensionals!…you need those too!).  This is my completed card..

Is that not a cute card?  This card, with the exception fo the hello sentiment is made with just the Playful Pets Designer Series Paper and coordinating cardstock.  And to give both cats and dogs an equal showing, here is the same design, but with a cute little doggie.

I do not own the Pampered Pets Stamp Set  that coordinates with this paper….although I might have to put that on my list.

252A7288-6E78-4779-9B88-B240F2FD0598But that does not mean I still can’t make cute cards with just the paper.  Several of the sheets of the Playful Pets Designer Series Paper have pictures of different breeds of dogs and cats.  It’s super simple to just fussy cut one of those images out to use on a card.  There are also food dishes, little mice, bones, etc that can also be fussy cut too.

So how did I make that fold?  I watched a video by Lisa Curcio, but she used a Simply Scored to make the score lines, but I know that not everyone has one, so I figured out how to do the same thing, but with Stampin’ Up’s Paper Trimmer as in addition to a cutting blade, there is also a scoring blade.

First you need to cut your 6” x 6” piece of Designer Series Paper as shown below:

Taking the 4 1/4” x 4 1/4” piece, place it on your Paper Trimmer so that two of the points of the square are on the 2” measuring line.  Then score.  Move the paper over to the 1 1/2” measuring line and score again.  You’ll repeat that until all four corners are scored.  Then you simply fold IN on the score line closest to the center of the square and crease, and then fold OUT on the score line closest to the tip.  Then open it up and place dimensionals as shown to hold it closed.

If you do not own a Paper Trimmer with a scoring blade, you can do this same technique just by folding your paper as shown below.  (And then when you are finished with this card, why not purchase a Paper Trimmer?)

Then all you need to do is assemble your card!

For both cards, I added a little ink using a sponge dauber to made the cat and dog more prominent.  Because the dog image was larger, there wasn’t room for a sentiment….but that’s all the more reason to open the card to see what’s inside!

If you’d like to make this card, these are the supplies that you will need:

  • Flirty Flamingo (Real Red) Cardstock – Cut 4 1/4” x 11”; Score and fold at 5 1/2”, plus a piece cut 2” x 2”
  • Playful Pets Designer Series Paper – Cut 6” x 6”, then cut using diagram as guide)
  • Whisper White Cardstock – 2 pieces cut 5 ¼” x 4”, plus a piece cut 1 ¾” x 1 ¾”
  • Coordinating Cardstock – Cut ½” x 5 ¼”
  • Paper Trimmer
  • Ink: Flirty Flamingo (Real Red)
  • Stampin’ Dimensionals and adhesive (Stampin’ Seal or Multipurpose Liquid Glue)
  • Sponge Dauber
  • Paper Trimmer
  • Sentiment of your choice (Hello stamp is from Timeless Tulips Stamp Set)
  • Optional: Layering Squares Dies (for 2” x 2” – use scalloped edged square die)

Hope you’ll try this fun card!
