April Paper Pumpkin – My Wonderful Family

Welcome to another Paper Pumpkin post!  The April 2020 kit and stamp set is a tribute to those in our family…mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, and other extended family members.  This kit is chock full of goodness or as the description of the kit said…”fam-tactic!  Let’s take a look at everything in the kit:

The kit has all the supplies to make 8 cards and came with matching envelopes, plus an assortment of tags, trees, leaves, butterflies, birds, the stamp set, an ink spot, colored pearls, ribbon, dimensionals and glue dots. Whew….that’s a lot!  And I almost left out directions!

The directions show how to make 2 cards, both that have a little bit of fancy fold.  The  first one I made has a tree.  Since the theme is family….this would be the family tree.  On this card the bottom flips down and you flip up the top to open the card.

The second card is a “Z-Fold” card.  This one uses the leaves and a has a beautiful saying printed on the background piece.

There were several comments on a Paper Pumpkin Facebook page about covering up the saying,,….see, it is difficult to read through the leaves.

So I decided to make an alternate version of the card where you could see and read it!  I put the piece with the saying on the other card base because the inside of that card was the perfect spot.  But then I had to figure out what to put on the front.  I decided that since I was switching one of the design elements from the other card, I might as well, switch all the elements.

That is how the tree came to be on the front of this card.  I did have to shorten the sentiment banner on the front by trimming off one end…as well as cutting off a little of the bottom of the tree., but it worked wonderfully.  Now when you open the card, you can see (and read!) the saying.

Now, because I had switched the elements around I needed to come up with something for the other card, so this is what I did.  I turned the card base sideways and adhered the leaf to the front.  Before I attached the leaf, I gently folded the leaves in the middle to give them some dimension.  You can’t tell well in the picture, but the leaves have a raised embossed veins, so folding them up makes it look more life-like.

I also like the colors on this card better too.  The Shaded Spruce leaves go really well with the side border on the card.  And the darker colors with the white really make the butterfly pop a little too.

These cards were super easy to make and went together fast….even with making some of them in an alternate way.  Plus although I made all 8 cards, I still have some supplies left to use on other cards…ribbon, pearls, glue dots, Dimensionals, sentiment tags, birds and butterflies.  And there is always the stamp set.  Check back tomorrow…I’m going to share two cards that I made using the stamp set.  You’ll be surprised what you can do with that tree top!

Happy Stamping!
