Good Morning Magnolia!

My mother-in-law, who passed away in 2015 from Alzheimer’s Disease, loved flowers.  She could make anything grow, even flowers and plants that she would give to me and I would seemingly kill, she would bring them back to life.  She had a beautiful yard full of flowers…that included a HUGE magnolia tree.   June 6th was my Father-in-law’s 88th birthday.  I know he misses the love of his life dearly….so today I am sharing a card in honor of both of them.

When I first saw the GOOD MORNING MAGNOLIA stamp set, I immediately thought of my Mother-in-law and knew I had to get my hands on it.  Because I am visiting my daughter in Korea as I write this, I didn’t bring the stamp set along….but I did stamp a few images to color on the plane ride.   So I had to improvise and use other supplies that I brought with me to make this card.  So the background polka dot paper is not from the gorgeous coordinating MAGNOLIA BLOOMS DESIGNER SERIES PAPER, but from the BIRD BALLAD DESIGNER SERIES PAPER.

But you make do with what you have….

I stamped the image and then colored with Stampin’ Blends.  Thanks to Wendy Cranford who shared a video on how to color this flower.  I used similar colors, but the effect is the same.  Start with the darkest color in the bottom of the flower petals and gradually add lighter colors.  Stop when you like what you’ve done!  No need to over do as the flower is big and you want to keep it on the lighter side.  I added a little Wink of Stella to the darkest parts of the petal and a few colored basic Rhinestones to the middle to make it sparkle.

I hope you like this card! If you’d like to make this card, this is what you need:

  • Magnolia Lane Stamp Set
  • Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper
  • 2” Circle Punch
  • Cardstock: Basic Black, Whisper White, Grapefruit Grove?
  • Stampin’ Blends: Calypso Coral (Light), Petal Pink (Dark & Light), Mossy Meadow (Dark & Light), Color Lifter
  • Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black and Calypso Coral
  • Wink of Stella
  • Adhesive: Snail Adhesive, Stampin’ Dimensionals
  • Basic Rhinestones: Colored with Calypso Coral IDark) Stampin’ Blends

  • Grapefruit Grove Cardstock – Cut 4 ¼” x 11”; Score and fold at 5 ½”
  • 1st Layer: Basic Black Cardstock – Cut 5 ¼” x 4”
  • 2nd Layer: Bird Ballad Cardstock – Cut 5” x 3 ¾”
  • Whisper White Cardstock – Stamp, color and cut magnolia, and circle

  • Whisper White Cardstock – Cut 5 ¼” x 4”
  • Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper – Cut ¾” x 4”

I wish I had a better sentiment for the card with me because “friendship” isn’t quite right.  “Love” would be better, because I was never treated like a “Daughter-in-law”, I was always treated like I was one of their own children….another daughter.  I am forever grateful and blessed!

Happy Stamping!
