Gift Card Holders, Seasonal - Winter

Christmas Gift Week – More Gift Card Holders

Yes, you can never have enough gift card holders.  It’s good to keep a small stash on hand for those last minute gifts for friends and family…or maybe a coworker?  Yesterday I shared a gift card holder where the gift card went in vertically.  Today we are changing directions and for these holders, the gift card is horizontal.  And they are quick and easy too!

I got my original directions from Sue Mohr .  The first one I made, I followed her directions and measurements, but it seemed a little big to me, so I made another one and adjusted the measurements to make it a little smaller.  Can you tell which one is bigger?

It’s the Red Striped one on the bottom.  The gift card just looked too little on the inside.  And by adjusting the measurements, I could make two gift card holders out of one piece of 8 1/2” x 11” cardstock.

To decorate the outside, I used the extra pieces from my Sincerely Santa Tag Kit. They are the perfect size, so if you don’t need all 30 of the gift tags that the kit will make, this is a great way to use the extras!  If you don’t have that kit, you can use other small pieces of cardstock, glimmer paper or use any other embellishments that you have….ribbons, buttons, sequins….just use your imagination.

If you’d like to make the smaller version of the gift card holder, these are the supplies that you will need.

  • Sincerely Santa Stamp Set
  • Sincerely Santa Tag Kit
  • Cherry Cobbler Cardstock – Cut 7 3/4” x 4 1/2”;  Score at 6” and 2 1/2”  Also cut a piece 1” x 8 1/2” for the bellyband to hold it closed.
  • Farmhouse Designer Series Paper (or paper of your choice) – Cut 4 1/4” x 2 1/4” and 4 1/4” x 1 1/2”
  • Very Vanilla Cardstock  – Cut 4 1/4” x 1 1/2” ; plus a scrap for the stitched square
  • Ribbon of your choice.
  • Garden Green Ink
  • Tear ‘n Tape (attached to the sides of the larger flap to make the pocket
  • Corner Rounder (optional)

Hint….and this is a big one!……make sure when making the pocket of the gift card holder that you remember to punch out the “finger hold”….it’s that half circle on the inside that will help you get a grip on the gift card to pull it out.  I wasn’t paying attention when I made the smaller holder and forgot to punch that out before using put the tear ‘n tape on the two sides, so the gift card can disappear into the pocket.  Here is the inside of the gift card….with and without the 1/2 circle punched out.

Isn’t it nice to know that we all make mistakes???   I bet if I hadn’t told you, you might not have noticed!!

Happy Stamping!
