I have a the fun card for you today. Most cards fold in half. Traditionally, there is a fold on the left and you open the card to read it, like you open a book. Or it might have the fold on top and then you would flip it up to read the inside. This card “bends” and creates a little scene….in this case a birthday scene.
I think this picture looks a little bendy…I need to work on my photography skills! Here is another view a little bit from the side that might give you a better idea of how the card “bends”
This card is fairly simple to make but there are a few tips and tricks that will help as you assemble the card. First, I used the Hey Birthday Chick Stamp Set and the coordinating Hey Chick Dies.
As you can see from looking at the stamps and the dies, that there are dies for the 4 stamped chicks, but there are also a few extra dies that do not have matching stamps….like the fence that I used in my card, There is also a little feed sack, a baby chick, a birthday streamer banner and die cut words “Happy Birthday”. My advice is when you are purchasing a stamp set, check out the dies, there might be more there than you think….Stampin’ Up! likes to add some hidden gems.
Due to the “bend” in this card, this scoring is done just a little differently. for the base of the card, you will need to adhere the Designer Series Paper to the Polished Pink Cardstock base BEFORE you score it. You will get a much cleaner and smoother look if you adhere the two pieces together first. This piece is also scored from the back.…so flip it over so the Designer Series Paper side is face down on the Trimmer/Scorer and then score.
The above view shows how the base piece will bend and how the Basic White piece is folded and adhered. The Basic White Cardstock piece needs to be scored two separate times. The ends are scored first (score on the long side at 1/2″ and 4 1/2″). The image should be stamped next between the two score lines. Once the image is stamped, use Stampin’ Blends markers to color your image. AFTER the image has been colored, then you can score it down the middle at 2 1/2″. If you score this piece down the middle first, the image won’t stamp cleanly over the score line and also it will be hard to color right in the score line. So remember – Stamp, Color, then Score. Oh and don’t forget to adhere it to the base card by placing Multipurpose Liquid Glue on the two folded end and then adhere to the center of the base piece.
