Butterfly Brilliance, Thinking of You

What’s Black & White and…..

I’m sure many of you know this old joke….What’s black and white and read all over?  (the answer is the newspaper)….but today the answer would be….the new 2021-2022 Annual Catalog that Stampin’ Up! launched yesterday….

Catalog 2021-2022

and the card that I am going to show you today…..

B & W Take Two Tuesday #4

It might look like a regular card, but it’s actually a Pop-Up Card.  I saw the design several places on Pinterest, so not sure who to credit (If it’s you!, let me know and I’ll be happy to tag you).  But I changed all the papers.  When I made the card the new catalog was not out yet, so I was trying to use up some of my “almost retiring” Designer Series Papers to make room for the new papers I ordered Tuesday morning.

B & W Take Two Tuesday

I used the True Love Designer Series Papers that are in the January-June 2021 Mini Catalog.  They are all black and white patterns with stripes, dots, geometric patterns as well as small and large flowers.  The flowers are easily colored with Colored Pencils or Stampin’ Blends Markers, so don’t let the all Black and White scare you off if you are one that like lots of color.

The butterflies are cut from the Brilliant Wings Dies.  These dies allow you to cut the outline shape or a more intricate detailed die cut.  The six intricate dies match the six solid butterflies making them perfect for layering.

If you would like to make this card, these are the supplies you will need:

  • Happy Thoughts Stamp Set (or Peaceful Moments Stamp Set)
  • Brilliant Wings Dies
  • Basic Black Cardstock
    • Cut 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″‘ Fold and score at 4 1/4″ (card base)
    • Cut 2 3/8 x 3 3/4″
    • Scraps for butterfly die cuts
  • Basic White Cardstock
    • Cut 5 1/4″ x 8 1/4″; Fold and score at 4 1/8″ (inside)
    • Cut 4″ x 5 1/4″
    • Cut 2 1/4″ x 3 5/8″
    • Scrap for Circle (2″ circle), and scraps for butterfly die cuts
    • Cut 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″
  • True Love Designer Series Paper – Cut 3 7/8″ x 5 1/8″ (one each from 3 different coordinating patterns)
  • Flowers for Every Season Ribbon Combo Pack – White Ribbon
  • Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
  • Adhesive: Stampin’ Seal or Multipurpose Liquid Glue, Dimensionals
  • Tools: Paper Trimmer, Ruler & Pencil, Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine

If you are making a more colorful card, then you will just need two coordinating colors of cardstock.  The inside piece does not need to be white as it serves as a “mat” for the Designer Series Papers as you can see below.  And the smaller white piece is where you write your note.  If you like to write more than will fit there, just add a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Basic White Cardstock to the back of your card or add another smaller piece (same size) to the right hand side on the inside of the card.

B & W Take Two Tuesday #2

I could go into a lengthy explanation of how to make this card, but honestly, it’s so much easier to show you.  You can check out my YouTube Video by clicking: Black & White Pop Up Card Video or you can check out my Facebook page here: Pat’s Card Corner.

And in true fashion when you are doing a Facebook Live….you can forget things.  The card on the right is the one I made in the video.  The one on the left is one I made with my Card Corner Crew group.  What’s different?

B & W Take Two Tuesday #7

Well….there are a few things different.  I used the back side of the Designer Series paper in the card on the left,  the sentiment is different, and I used two butterflies on the card on the left.  But the biggest difference is the ribbon!  I was chatting and distracted myself and then adhered my pieces down before I put the ribbon on. so I compensated for that by adding a second butterfly to the front.  So if you want ribbon on your card.  Please adhere the Designer Series paper to the Basic White piece, then add the ribbon by adhering the ends to the backside and then attaching to the front of the card case.

B & W Take Two Tuesday #6

But I do like how it came out…..and actually like it better without…..but I also like the flower side of the paper a bit better too.  So Maybe consider this the female and male versions of a card.

This card is easier than it looks thanks to a little template that you’ll make from the 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ piece of Basic White Cardstock.  If you keep that template, you’ll be all set to make more of these c ,lleards!

Happy Stamping!

Patricia
