I’m all in for simple cards….and if you looked at the title of this post, you might not think that this is simple…a fun fold AND a gift card holder…but I promise you it is! Birthday cards are the perfect time to add a little extra to your card….like a gift card holder. And this easel type card is great to display too. Anyone else besides me put cards up on a mantle or table for a week or two for the reminder that friends and family took the time to send a card?
I used the Sweet Ice Cream Designer Series Paper for this card, There are lots of fun patterns to mix and match in this set of papers…stripes, ice cream cones, popsicles, stripes, block prints…they all say “party” to me. I also used one of the FREE products you can earn with a $50.00 purchase during Sale-A-Bration, the Oh So Ombre Designer Series Papers.
This card is almost like two cards in one. The smaller card on the front opens to reveal a place to write a personal message as well as a pocket for a gift card on the top.
The bottom card piece is what holds everything together. It has a fold at the bottom that folds like a tent. The “button” on the bottom (the two squares) is popped up on dimensionals so that the flap of the smaller card tucks right in so the card can be displayed.
If you would like to make this card, these are the supplies that you will need:
- Sweet Ice Cream Stamp Set
- Blackberry Bliss Cardstock
- Cut 4 1/4” x 11”; Score and fold at 2 3/4” and 5 1/2” (base card)
- Cut 3 1/2” x 9”, Score at 4 1/2” (small card)
- Cut 1 1/2” x 1 1/2” (or use a Scrap for 1 1/2” Circle)
- Sweet Ice Cream Designer Series Paper
- Pattern #1 (stripes) – Cut 3 1/4” x 4 1/4” ( if you are making a gift card pocket, use a 1 1/2” circle punch to punch a 1/2 circle from the top of the paper for a fingerhold.)
- Pattern #1 (stripes) – Cut 2 pieces 3 1/4” x 3/4”
- Pattern #2 (Ice Cream Cones) – Cut 2 pieces 4” x 2 1/2”
- Scraps to fussy cut two ice cream cones
- Oh So Ombre Designer Series Paper
- Cut 4” x 5 1/4”
- Basic White Cardstock
- Cut 2 pieces 3 1/4” x 4 1/4”
- Scrap for Scalloped Circle
- Ink: Blackberry Bliss, Bermuda Bay, Calypso Coral
- Adhesive: Stampin’ Seal (or Multipurpose Lquid Glue) and Mini Dimensionals
- Tools: Paper Trimmer, Paper Snips, Optional – 1 1/2” Circle Punch and 1 3/8” Scalloped Circle Punch
The first card I made with this design, I used two punches to make the “button” at the bottom – a 1 1/2” Circle Punch for the cardstock layer and a 1 3/8” Scalloped Circle Punch for the Basic White layer. These are both retired punches and many people do not own them. An easy alternative (and lit ooks just as good) is to just cut two squares. – one piece of cardstock 1 1/2” x 1 1/2” and one piece of Basic White cut 1 3/8” x 1 3/8”
I fussy cut two of the ice cream cones right for the Sweet Ice Cream Designer Series Papers and adhered them to the front of the square. You could also stamp a small sentiment, like I did with my original card that you can see below.
You can watch the video of how to make this card on my Facebook Page Pat’s Card Corner (look for the post for February 23, 2021 or check out the video on You Tube here: Stand Up Fun Fold & Gift Card Holder
Happy Stamping!
