I guess you can tell that I am a little obsessed with the Love of Leaves Stamp Set and the coordinating Stitched Leaves Dies. If you haven’t seen my three previous posts, check them out here:Love of Leaves – Maroon & Orange, here: More Love of Leaves and here: Simply Thankful for Love of Leaves. Today I am wrapping up this week of leaves with a fun way to add a variety of colors on one stamp so that you get a result like this: It’s very simple, but I think the large leaf packs enough of a “wow” factor that you don’t really need anything else. The above is the first card I made. This one below is from a Facebook Live that I did earlier this week.
So how did I do that? Why with Baby Wipes and a few favorite colors of Re-inkers. You will need a piece of foil, a few baby wipes and your Re-inkers, plus your stamp and some cardstock to stamp on. You can see that I put ALL the leaf stamps onto blocks because I wanted to make a whole pile!
You can use any brand of Baby wipes….but I would look for ones that are just regular without all the added lotions, etc. These had a little pattern on them, which showed up a bit on the leaves, but you don’t really notice it much. First thing it to make a little pile of 2-3 of the baby wipes and place them in the center of your foil. Then using one Ink Refill at a time squeeze one drop in random spots onto the baby wipe until you have a size a little bigger than your biggest stamp.
You’ll see that the ink will spread out. You want to fill in all the “white spots” so you have good coverage. Then all you do it use this as a “ink pad”. Take your stamp, ink it on the baby wipes and then stamp on your paper. Some areas might have more of one color and less of another. You can always add more ink if you don’t have the desired effect you were going for. Or clean your stamp off and re-ink your stamp again in a different spot on the Baby Wipe and stamp again on a piece of cardstock.
Above are all the leaves I stamped with just a few drops of ink. And they don’t all look the same either! They all look different. I used four ink colors- Cherry Cobbler, Shaded Spruce, Pumpkin Pie and Crushed Curry, but I was using colors that were in one of the pieces of the Plaid Tidings 6” x 6” Designer Series Paper. Can you guess which one?
You can just use as little as two colors. The best part is that if you like what you did, you can wrap up the baby wipes in the foil (like you are wrapping food). You can put it in a plastic bag if you’d like. I just left mine wrapped up and it was still wet enough the two days later to stamp some more. Now it’s time to die cut the leaves and add the stitching!
You can use this techniques for any variety of stamps….leaves, flowers, or even to stamp words, sentiments, numbers….there are lots of possibilities. Maybe you’d like to create your own background paper! These are the two cards I created using the Baby Wipe Technique.
The one on the left is the first one I made and the one on the right is the one that I made in the video (see the link at the end of this blog post.). Can you see how different they turned out? One is more subtle and the the other is more vibrant. And did you notice the sentiment? The one on the left was stamped with a regular ink pad and the one on the right was stamped using the Baby Wipe Technique. Ready to try it yourself? It is really simple. I stamped a leaf in the middle of a piece of 5 1/4” x 4” Very Vanilla Cardstock, then die cut it out, folded up the leaves on the center stitching to make it stand out a little more and then adhered everything to the front of a Merry Merlot card base. The leaf is attached only in the center of the leaf for more dimension. I didn’t want to glue all the sections of the leaf down. And I also did a little stamping on the inside of the card too.
