Peaceful Poppies Sampler

It’s the end of the Peaceful Poppies week on my blog and I saved the best for last…..a Poppy Sampler.  I’ve really fallen in love with this set of Designer Series Papers.  I wasn’t sure I was going to like it at the beginning….so much Poppy Parade color! But the more you cut the paper, and see it on cards, the prettier it gets.

Normally my samplers have lots of stamping…something different stamped in every block, but with the restrictions of “social distancing” and making my class projects into “Kits to Go”, I realized that I needed to do something a little different.   I couldn’t expect all my stampers to have all the multiple stamp sets, not to mention inks and dies.  But then inspiration hit….let the paper shine.  So that’s what I did.

The finished size of this sampler is 9″ x 9″.  It can be put into a 9″ x 9″ frame like I did above, but you can also add one of the other pieces from the Peaceful Poppies Designer Series Papers as a 12″ x 12″ background and it will slip right into a 12″ x 12″ Shadowbox Frame like this:

And if you change the background paper, the Sampler changes it’s look too!  When the background is the solid Poppy Parade piece, the entire sampler takes on that color and you see predominantly Poppy Parade.

But when the background is the what I’ll called “Polka Dot Blackberry Bliss piece, that color really shines through and the Poppy Parade takes a back set.  What a difference it makes!

Here are the two side by side so you can really see the change.

I did add a few die cut pieces….the letters in the middle square: hope along with a few flower buds and the poppy in the corner.   This week-end we will celebrate Memorial Day – a day to honor and mourn those who died during the Civil War, but has come to honor all men and women who have died while serving in the U.S  Military.  The poppy is often used as a symbol of remembrance originally for those who died during World War I.  The red of the poppy symbolizes the blood that was shed and the green leaf represents the grass and growth of crops and future prosperity….a promise of hope.  The leaf is to be positioned at the 11th hour – to remember the formal ending of World War I  — at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month —the day we traditionally celebrate Veteran’s Day.  And now I am done with my history lesson.

Also check out my Facebook page here: Pat’s Card Corner   I’ll be doing a Facebook Live on Friday, May 22nd to show you how to put this sampler together.  It is so easy and fast too!  I think the part that takes the longest is is cutting the pieces.

Ok….and now a test of your powers of observation….what’s different about the first photo  of the sampler and all the rest?  I’ll give you a HUGE hint….when you don’t like what you see after you are finished….you take your sampler out of the frame and do a little rearranging of the squares.

Happy Stamping!

Patricia
