Doodling Fun

Raise your hand if you doodle on bits of paper that are lying around?  Maybe while you are talking on the phone and there is a pen and paper nearby do you grab it and doodle? I do!  Did you know that you can doodle with a purpose and make fun cards at the same time?  Who knew?  I CAS’d (Copy And Share) this card from a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator in Europe, but I can’t find her name or card anymore.  (Note: if this is your card, please let me know so I can give you credit).

This card is made using two, what I call “Splotch” stamps from two different stamp sets….both of which are retiring in June.  I used the the round balloon stamp from Bonanza Buddies Stamp Set to make the small birds and a big “splotch” from the Love What You Do Stamp Set to make the larger bird.

I simply stamped each “splotch” in a different color and then used a Journaling Pen, (which is also on the list of retiring products) to draw the outline, legs, feathers and beaks. I also use the matching Stampin’ Blends Markers to fill in the feathers and to make the background dots.

The original card used the a small kitten stamp from Grace’s Garden Stamp Set, but I don’t own that stamp set, so I needed to come up with something else.  And then inspiration hit.  A friend had a wreath on her door that became a spot for a nest.  They have a camera for their door, so they aimed it at the nest and for several weeks, we watched the eggs, saw them hatch and the babies grow up and finally fly away.  So with that in mind…..there should be an egg!

I thought I made it a little too small for such a large bird (see the first card) so I made the card above with a larger egg…..and then I decided it would be a great “baby card” for a new mother, so I added this sentiment from the Welcome Easter Stamp Set (also retiring) to the inside of the card.

If you’d like to make this card, these are the products you will need:

  • Love What You Do Stamp Set
  • Bonanza Buddies Stamp Set
  • Welcome Easter Stamp Set
  • Daffodil Delight Cardstock (or Granny Apple Green Cardstock) – Cut 5 1/2” x 8 1/2”, Score and fold at 4 1/4”
  • Whisper White Cardstock – Cut two pieces 5 1/4” x 4”

This was so fun to draw and a great way to use some of those background stamps that you sometimes aren’t sure what to do with.  And best of all, you don’t have to be an artist to try this!

Happy Stamping!

Patricia
