I’ve talked about Paper Pumpkin Kits on my blog before. You can check out those posts Here and Here. I just received my March Paper Pumpkin kit in the mail last week. Before the COVID-19 virus starting taking on a much larger presence, I had planned a Paper Pumpkin Party for this week, a chance for those who subscribe and get Paper Pumpkin kits in the mail to get together and put together their kits. It’s a monthly “party” where we also share ideas of alternate ways to use the kit. But due to the virus and “Social Distance” restrictions, I am not having that class. So I though this would be the perfect place to share not only the cards that the kit makes, but also a some alternative ways to use the goodies that are in the box.
March’s Paper Pumpkin Kit is called No Matter the Weather and since March’s kit was celebrating the 7 year Anniversary of Paper Pumpkin, it came in a special box and included an extra set of stamps! Just a look at everything that was inside!
The box contained 12 note size cards, 4 each of three designs, with matching envelopes. Also included are all the supplies you need to decorate those cards: a stamp set, baker’s twine, a stampin’ spot (small ink pad), dimensionals, glue dots, tags, some super cute designs to punch out, clear rain drop embellishments and most importantly directions!
And as I mentioned, the kit contained an extra bonus stamp set! The extra stamps coordinate with the Paper Pumpkin kit….see the boots and the flower design that will decorate them? but it’s also great to make other cards too….like that cute little bunny sitting in a bunch of grass or next to a pot of flowers by the doorway. A little flyer was included with a few examples of cards made with the bonus stamps.
If you make the cards using the directions that come with the kit, these are the three designs you will have when you’re done. The punched out designs are fabulous, you just add a little stamping….like the dark gray clouds. That stamp is a “Distinctive” stamp so the shading is just part of the stamp. I added raindrops to the middle card and some extra puddling on the card on the right. And of course you get to stamp the sentiment on the one of the three different tag designs and then tie on a little twine.
There are also a few things that you can do with this kit that are quick and simple and that will give you a new look, but still using the supplies. The cards that come with the kit are note size cards – the finished size is 5” x 3 1/2”, so they are a little smaller than the regular A2 size cards I usually make. The finished size of an A2 card is 5 1/2” x 4 1/4”. But you can easily take those notesize base cards and do a little cutting to use them to make a larger card. First, I used my paper trimmer to cut the card front off and gave them a little trim by cutting 1/4” off the 5” side making it 4 3/4” long. I then layered the card fronts on top of coordinating colored Cardstock.
I used the same punched out designs, but I changed a few things and on one I added a different ribbon instead of using the twine that was in the kit. You also might have noticed that I switched the background cards on two of the cards. Another way to show that you don’t always have to follow the exact directions! Here are the two card sizes side by side. The original note cards are on the left, the larger A2 card is on the right. (And just for a heads up….I didn’t notice until I did the second set of cards that the boots will line up with the girl so it looks like the green pair is actually being worn!)
For the first set of cards I made these changes
- Base Card – Old Olive Cardstock – Cut 5 1/2” x 8 1/2”; Score and fold at 4 1/4”
- Whisper White Cardstock – 5 1/4” x 4”
- Note Card Front – Cut off at the middle (3 1/2”). Trim the 5” side to 4 3/4” by trimming off 1/4” on the right hand side.
- Use dimensionals to attach the boots.
- Stamp the sentiment in Basic Gray Ink
For the second card, these are the changes I made:
- Grapefruit Grove Cardstock – Cut 4 1/4” x 11”; Score and fold at 5 1/2”
- Basic Gray Cardstock – Cut 3 3/4” x 5”
- Note Card Front – Cut off at the middle (3 1/2”). Trim the 5” side to 4 3/4” by trimming off 1/4” on the top of the card
- Grapefruit Grove Cardstock : Use the 1 3/4” Circle to punch a circle to go behind the circle in the kit.
- 1/8” Grapefruit Grove Grossgrain ribbon – wrap it around the basic Gray layer and tie in a bow.
- Use Dimensionals to adhere the boots and to adhere the white circle.
- Stamped directly on the card instead of using a banner.
- Whisper White Cardstock – Cut 5 1/4” x 4” (inside of card)
And for the third and last card these are the changes I made:
- Basic Gray Cardstock – Cut 5 1/2” x 8 1/2”; Score and fold at 4 1/4”
- Balmy Blue Cardstock – Cut 5 1/4” x 4”
- Whisper White Cardstock – Cut 5 1/8” x 4 7/8”
- Note Card Front – Cut the off at the middle (3 1/2”). Trim the 5” side to 4 3/4” by trimming off 1/4” on the top of the card
- Stamped two clouds using Balmy Blue Ink
- Stamp some puddle lines using Basic Gray ink
- Using a piece of the back of the notecard that was cut off – cut a piece 3/4” wide, layered the blue banner on top and then trimmed the notched end leaving a small border of white.
- Used two pieces of twine to make a bow and adhered it with a glue dot
- Whisper White Cardstock – Cut 5 1/4” x 4” (inside of card)
So there you have it…..6 cards made. And I still have more cards to make…remember this kit makes 12 cards! I can either make them like the kits or make more alternative cards! And I haven’t even used the extra set of stamps yet! That will have to wait until tomorrow’s post, so make sure you check back tomorrow!
