Under My Umbrella….on a Rainy Monday Night

As long as I can remember, my Mom has sung with Sweet Adelines….and at 90 years of age, she is still up on the risers singing away as the oldest member of the Scottsdale Chorus chapter.  Early on, my Dad in his infinite wisdom decided that she needed something to help her practice, so in 1964, he bought her a Wurlitzer Organ. Not a piano mind you like everyone else had, but an organ.  She can pick out notes, but never learned how to play, however all three of us kids at some point took lessons. It was not until I was in 7th grade that I was finally tall enough to reach the foot pedals.  When I was good enough for  “real songs”, my teacher’s choice was Rainy Days and Mondays by Burt Bacharach.  And it is still Monday where I am in Phoenix visiting my Mom, and it is raining….so it seemed like a good time to share this:

The stamp set I used is called Under My Umbrella and it coordinates with the  Umbrella Builder Punch.  There are two versions of the umbrella — one open and one closed, plus a handle as well as cute flowers and several fun sentiments.  You can purchase the stamp set and punch separately, but why would you do that when you can purchase them as a bundle and save 10%!

I used the Best Dressed Designer Series Paper as there are lots of colors, floral patterns and stripes to choose from that make great patterns for a set of matching umbrella and boots. I chose a pattern with purples – Highland Heather and Blackberry Bliss.  But it would be really easy to change your color scheme and coordinating cardstock and choose pinks – Lovely Lipstick, Melon Mambo, Petal Pink, or even yellows & greens – Daffodil Delight, Mossy Meadow, Old Olive.

I love a flowered umbrella, and I wish I had some boots like these, but they are easily made by stamping directly on the Best Dressed Designer Series Paper.  You can punch the umbrella out, but the boots were easily fussy cut with a pair of Paper Snips.

The “puddling rain” at the bottom was easily made by taking a piece of sponge, dabbing it on the Highland Heather inkpad to pick up a little ink and the lightly brushing across the bottom of the piece of Whisper White Cardstock.

If would like to make this card, this is what you will need;

  • Under My Umbrella Bundle (Under My Umbrella Stamp Set and Umbrella Builder Punch
  • Whisper White Cardstock – Cut 4 ¼” x 11”; Score and Fold at 5 ½”
  • Highland Heather Cardstock – Cut 5 ¼” x 4”
  • Whisper White Cardstock – Cut 3 ¼” x 4 ½”
  • Best Dressed DSP – Scraps for Boots & Umbrella
  • Blackberry Bliss Cardstock – Scrap for Umbrella handle
  • Ink:  Tuxedo Memento Black, Blackberry Bliss, Highland Heather
  • Stampin’ Sponge
  • Adhesives: Snail or Multipurpose Liquid Glue and Stampin’ Dimensionals
