It’s been a long week and for some reason I’ve had trouble getting back into a schedule after my vacation last week…which is why you are reading this on a Saturday. Finally got my act together and got my mind out of vacation mode. But I did have fun earlier this week with a few of my friends who participated in my March Card & Chat classes.
All the cards we made had an animal theme….Giraffes, Rhino’s, Pigs, Kangaroos….kind of a mini zoo of cards. This is my sample of one of the cards they made:
Oh….I forgot to mention koalas…..see him hiding in the Kangaroo’s pocket?
I switched out the sentiment for one friend and together we made a “Thank You” card.
Bet you might be wondering where I got the white ink. Surprise….it’s not ink! I heat embossed the sentiment so it would show up on the dark Shaded Spruce Green cardstock. This is the first time that I have embossed with a class….and I made the classic mistake and did just what I told them NOT to do….I ran my finger over the words to feel the raised bump and smeared my Thank You because it wasn’t quite set yet…..So don’t do that!
It’s easy to heat emboss and I wish I had tried it sooner! The heat tool was one of my Christmas gifts from my daughter and now that I’ve used it (two months later), I just want to heat emboss everything! You’ll need these supplies:
The first thing you do cover your work area – a half piece of 8 1/2” x 11” paper works great. Give the cardstock you will be stamping on a quick rub with the embossing buddy to get rid of any static cling. The embossing powder is very fine and you don’t want any sticking to your paper where you don’t want it! Then using the VersaMark ink, stamp the image/words you want to emboss. Sprinkle the embossing powder over the stamped image making sure to cover everything. Then carefully pick up your piece of cardstock andto tap it on the edge get rid of the excess powder. (Now you can use the half piece of paper to help you put back the excess into the container to be used again.) You’ll see that the powder will stick where you inked your image. Then simply hold your piece of cardstock by the edge….so you don’t burn your fingers. Turn on the heat tool and aim it at your image keeping it an inch or two away and moving it slightly back and forth over the image. Watch in amazement as your image turns brighter and a little shiny. Once it looks completely finished…turn your heat tool off and let the card set for a minute to cool off. Resist the temptation to immediately run your fingers over it to feel how it is raised up…..because I know you’ll want to do that!! And Ta-Da! This is what it will look like with no smear!

So…I made a mistake on one of these cards. I’ve done it before, but I usually catch myself doing it. Not this time. I will tell you that not a single person noticed when I was showing the card….and I didn’t notice either until I was editing my photos for this blog post and got a good close up view. So now I’ll be fixing that….
Happy Stamping.

I didn’t notice your mistake until you said something. DSP was upside down, right?
Yes, you are correct! I was so careful cutting the paper so the birds wouldn’t be sideways….that I didn’t even pay attention when I was adhereing the paper….and suddenly the birds are flying upside down!
