One Design – Two Different Cards

Recently I was playing around experimenting with some water color backgrounds when I was making Valentine cards.  Some of my attempts were not good…so I just put them aside thinking maybe I could use them for something else.  Besides I hate to waste paper.   One of the instagram people I follow does beautiful watercoloring.  She posted a photo awhile back where she had cut flowers out of some of her “mistakes”.  She made it into something beautiful!  So I remembered that and decided to punch out a few butterflies. This card is the result.

I wanted something bright and fun for the background because the butterflies color was bright and fun too.  The How Sweet It Is Designer Series Paper fit the bill.  See all the pretty colors!  They almost just pop off the page.

And I had a chance to use the new Rectangle Stitched Shapes too!  Love the detailed stitching….really makes the card look that much better.  But if you haven’t had a chance to get your hands on those yet….you can always still just cut a rectangle with your paper trimmer.  I provided those dimensions for you below.

If you’d like to make this card, this is what you’ll need:

  • Butterfly Gala Stamp Set (sentiment) – 2 large butterflies & 2 small butterflies
  • Butterfly Duet Punch
  • Melon Mambo Cardstock – Cut 4 1/4” x 11”, Score at 5 1/2”
  • Whisper White Cardstock – Cut 5 3/8” x 4 1/8”
  • How Sweet It Is Designer Series Paper – Cut 5 1/4” x 4” and a strip cut 1/4” x 4” for inside of card
  • Coastal Cabana Cardstock – Cut 2 5/8” x 1 1/4” and 1 1/2” x 3 5/8”
  • Whisper White Cardstock – Cut 2 3/8” x 1” and 1 1/4” x 3 3/8”, plus a piece 5 1/4” x 4” for inside of card
  • Ink: Coastal Cabana
  • Snail Adhesive and Liquid Multipurpose Glue

NOTE: The Butterfly Duet Punch which is in the 2019 Occasions catalog is currently on backorder and will not be available to purchase again until April….it was that popular!  But the good news is that Stampin’ Up! has already announced that this punch will carry over into the 2019-2020 Annual Catalog.

In the meantime, you could make this card using by stamping flowers and then fussy cutting them from another stamp set. I tried that with another piece of watercolor paper that just wasn’t quite right either.  I used the same design, just changed up the colors.

The colors on this card are: Melon Mambo and Mango Melody.  The black and white checked paper is part of  the Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper from the 2019 Sale-A-Bration catalog.

And the flowers are cut from this stamp set – Lovely Lattice, that is also part of the 2019 Sale-A-Bration catalog.

But you can choose any flower stamp.  Don’t be afraid to use the same card design on two different cards.  Just by changing the colors and the paper, you have two totally different cards.

Hope you’ll try this!…and if you do….post a picture in the comments.  I’d love to see what you create!

Happy Stamping!
Patricia
