My last two posts featured the Most Wonderful Time Medley – a collection that includes the The Most Wonderful Time stamp set, matching dies, Designer Series Paper, ribbon, star embellishments and stickers that include deer, banners, trees, candy canes and holly. You can see the first post here: It’s the Most Wonderful Time….and the second post with three more cards here: More Most Wonderful Time Cards. But what I didn’t show you in both those posts….
…were the envelopes! Every card has a matching envelope. And since they were such a cut little set of cards, I decided to make a little box to gift them in.
This was the first box I made. It’s super easy to do. It’s made from a 9 1/2” x 6 1/2” piece of Real Red Cardstock with a decorated 1” x 10” belly band cut from a Gold Foil sheet. The tree is stamped on a piece of Whisper White Cardstock, colored with a blender pen and decorated with the tinsel ribbon that is included in the Most Wonderful Time Medley, plus some Metallic Gold Pearls and a little banner.
So that’s the simple box. Then I added a little background paper.
The white and gold stripes are from one of the 4” x 6” cards that are included in the medley. There are also cards with small gold starts and ones with larger stars. You can’t really see the striped cards in the picture below…but you can see the card with the larger stars as well as the tinsel “ribbon”. And the tree I stamped and used the die to cut is the larger of the two Christmas trees in the set. And you can also see the little star die that I used to make a Gold Foil Star for the top of my tree.
Now for the box: This is what you’ll need. Follow the cutting and scoring directions on the card.
Once you have cut and scored the pieces, it’s time to cut away the unneeded pieces. Follow the picture below and cut away the pieces. Miter cut (take a little pizza slice off) the sides of the tabs as shown. Then turn the box so the right side is up for the box and and the wrong side is down for the belly band. Add a piece of tear and tape to the small flap on the end of the box and to the end of the belly band.
Attach the side flap to the other end of the box. Fold in the flaps to seal up the top and bottom. Wrap the belly band around the box with the overlap where it is connected so the overlap is on the front of the box. Attach the stamped, cut and decorated tree to the front of the belly band by placing a piece of Tear & Tape down the middle of the back of the tree. Do NOT put adhesive or glue all over the back of the tree as you don’t want to adhere the tree to the box, just to the belly band. The belly band should be able to slide off so you can get to the small cards inside!
So you probably think this is the finished product, but you would be wrong!
I thought that maybe I didn’t want to hide all those cards inside the box. I thought maybe it would be fun if you could actually see the cards….so I made another box exactly like the first one….but instead of using a piece of Cardstock….I used a piece of Window Sheet. Window Sheets are thick pieces of clear acrylic…and you can cut and score them just like a piece of paper. So you can see the cards and envelopes in your box!
You might notice from this picture that the tree on the front….also has another tree attached to the back. This helps to “hide” the tinsel ribbon that is wrapped around the tree as well as provide a clean and smooth backside to attach the tree to the belly band. Attach the two trees together with dimensionals. This box holds six 3” x 3” cards and envelopes. If you’d like to make a box to fit smaller cards, try making this box. This is what you will need:
- Most Wonderful TIme Medley
- Real Red Cardstock or (Window Sheet) – Cut 9 1/2” x 6 1/2”. Score on the long side (9 1/2” side) at the following: 1/2”, 1 1/2”, 5” and 6”. Next score on the short side (6 1/2” side) at the following: 3 1/2”, 4 1/2”, 8” and 9”
- Gold Foil Sheet – Cut 1” x 10 1/2”. Score at 2 1/4”, 3 1/4”, 6 7/8” and 8”
- Tear and Tape, Snail Adhesive or Multipurpose Liquid Glue
- Old Olive Cardstock – Cut 3 1/4” x 3 1/4”
- Gold Foil Sheet – Cut 3 1/8” x 3 1/16” , plus a small scrap to die cut a star.
- Most Wonderful Time Designer Paper or Card – Cut 2 7/8” x 2 7/8”
- Whisper White Cardstock – 1 scrap to stamp and cut one tree and another piece to cut a second tree to use for the backing. Also a piece 1/2” x 2” for sentiment.
- Ink: Old Olive and Real Red
- Blender Pen (to blend ink on tree)
- Metallic Pearls (Gold)
- Stampin’ Dimensionals
- Paper Snips
The best part about this box is that yes, you can use it for 3” x 3” cards, but you can also make this same box and slip in some chocolates, a cookie (wrapped in a plastic bag), small sweets, a piece of jewelry, small trinkets, etc. The possibilities are endless.
Happy Stamping!
