A Burst of Color with Pigment Sprinkles

Working with Pigment Sprinkles is, in a word….fun!  Sprinkling a little on a piece of Watercolor paper spritzed with water is like watching fireworks.  Every little shake gives you a burst of color.  The result is amazing….and is so quick and easy.  The longest part is waiting for the paper to dry so you can finish your card!

You can speed up the process of drying your watercolor paper by using either the heat tool that is used for embossing or I’ve heard even a hair dryer will work.  Just make sure that if you do try drying your paper this way, make sure the pigment sprinkle container is closed and sealed.  You don’t want those sprinkles all over your room!

Pigment Sprinkles come in a box of 6 vibrant colors:  Bermuda Bay, Gorgeous Grape, Melon Mambo, Granny Apple Green, Daffodil Delight and Mango Melody.

Each container has a cap that screws off to reveal a little lid that when lifted unseals the sprinkles.  There are 3 holes that you use to sprinkle (like salt) the pigment flakes onto your paper.  It doesn’t take much and if you find that it is coming out too fast and your colors are too dark, then just take a piece of washi tape or painter’s tape and cover up two of the little holes.  Works like a charm to keep from sprinkling too much.

Once your water color paper is dry, it’s ready to stamp your images or sentiment and the adhere to your base card.  I would suggest using Multipurpose Liquid Glue as the watercolor paper is textures and depending on the amount of water that you used when making your card, it might be a little curled, so the glue tends to work a bit better than the Snail Adhesive in keeping the paper flat and secure.

Remember I said that using Pigment Sprinkles was like fireworks?  These dandelions look a little like fireworks too!  (Thanks to one of my stampers who mentioned that!)

I mentioned earlier about spritzing your paper with water and then adding the Pigment Sprinkles.  But if you want to see a different way to see fireworks, sprinkle the pigment flakes on a piece of DRY watercolor paper and then spritz your paper with water.  Boom! An explosion of color!  Try it and you’ll be hooked!

The beauty about this technique is that you can make the same card design, but every one will be different.  More water, less water, more sprinkles, less sprinkles….Try a different color or combine the colors to make new colors!  Yellow + Blue = Green!

If you’d like to try this card, this the basic design:

  • Whisper White Thick Cardstock – Cut 5 1/2” x 8 1/2”’; Score and fold at 4 1/4”
  • Basic Black Cardstock – Cut 5” x 3 3/4”
  • Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper – Cut 4 3/4” x 3 1/2”
  • Whisper White Cardstock – Cut 5 1/4” x 4” (for inside)
  • Pigment Sprinkles (your choice of color)
