Hooray for Surprises

Hooray for Surprises – Easy Card Design #1

If you struggle with how you want to design your cards, often times the  best thing to do is keep it simple.  Or as Stampin’ Up likes to say, use the SIP Method – Stamps, Ink, Paper.  For the rest of July, I’m going to show you several easy cards  that you can make with minimal supplies and in the case of the first card – a great way to use some of your scraps.  And the best part is that these simple designs also make easy Christmas Cards too!  Today I’m showing you a “non-Christmas” card and then I’ll be sharing two Chrismtas Cards made with the same layout later this week, so be sure to subscribe in the box on the right to be notified when I add another post to my blog!)

Today’s card is made with the Hooray for Surprises Stamp Set.Hooray For Surprises #1

This is a great stamp set that makes cards for multiple occasions – birthday, perhaps Valentine’s Day or Special Celebrations.  I paired it with papers from the Brights 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Papers – choosing the Azure Afternoon Patterned pieces (you can see a tiny strip the second row from the bottom)

I decided to make my card monochromatic so I also used Azure Afternoon Cardstock and Ink.  The flower is stamped with the triple stamp method:

Hooray for Surprises #3

I inked my stamp one time and stamped the flower 3 times starting at the bottom of the strip of Basic White Cardstock and moving up slightly each time so there is less ink and a more faded look.   Then finished it off with a few Rainbow Dots embellishments.  I guess technically that’s not part of the SIP method, but every card needs a little bling….right?

If you’d like to make this card, you will need the following:

  • Hooray for Surprises Stamp Set
  • Azure Afternoon Cardstock – Cut 4 1/4″ x 11″,  Score and fold at 5 1/2″, plus Cut 2 1/4″ x 4 1/8″
  • Brights 6×6 Designer Series Paper – Cut 3 strips 3/4″ x 3 3/4″ (one each of 3 designs)
  • Basic White Cardstock – Cut 2 pieces 4″ x 5 1/4″ and Cut 1 piece 2 1/8″ x 4″
  • Ink: Azure Afternoon
  • Rainbow Adhesive Backed Dots
  • Paper Trimmer, Multipurpose Liquid Glue and Dimensionals

Check back tomorrow and see the Christmas Version of this card!   (If you are afraid you’ll forget to check back, just  subscribe to be notified when I publish a new post by entering your email in the side bar!)
