Social Distancing = Put a Card in the Mail!

To keep with the “social distancing” to help stop the spread due to the Covid-19 Virus, now is the perfect time for sending cards in the mail!  Sure you can send a quick email or text to your friends & family, but let’s face it….now you’ve probably got more free time on your hands and you need something to do.  Crafting and making cards is a great way to spend your time and it’s been shown that crafting reduces stress!   So get out your paper, stamps and ink….and make a few cards!

The cards I am sharing today are variations of a card that was part of an All Day Stamping Retreat back in February.

The card is a fun fold….it looks like it would open like a regular card….but it actually is a kind of a gate fold card.  The top and bottom pieces open the opposite way as the middle piece.  The circles in the middle keep the card closed.

And you open it all the way up to reveal the inside…with a couple of cute little bees.

This card is made using the Honey Bee Stamp Set that is in the 2020 Mini Catalog.  The stamp set includes a bee hive, come cute sentiments and of course….bees!  There are matching Detailed Bee Dies too that include a honey comb, flowers and of course more bees!

The two bees in the stamp set can be stamped and then die cut.  I used the smallest bee and the two flowers on the first card.  On the second card, I used the big bee on the lower right in the die set.  Instead of just the outline of a bee, this die is a more of an intricate detailed outline of a bee.

You can see it a little closer here….with the wings bent up, it looks like it’s ready for take off.

To make it look more like a bee,  I adhered it down onto the card by putting glue only on the body.  Then I colored in-between the body parts with a Dark Daffodil Stampin’ Blends Marker.

The third card I used the bigger of the stamped bees and again colored in the body so make it more bee-like.

Unfortunately the Golden Honey Specialty Designer Series Paper is sold out.  The paper was one of the FREE items that could be earned through Sale-A-Bration with a $50 purchase.  It’s hard to see in a picture, but the honey comb on the paper is metallic, so it’s shiny like the Gold Foil Scalloped circles on the cards.

If you’d like to make one of these cards, this is what you will need:

  • Honey Bee Stamp Set
  • Detailed Bee Dies
  • Stitched Shapes Dies (Circle)
  • Layering Circles Dies (Scalloped Circles)
  • Basic Black Cardstock – Cut 5 ½” x 8 ½”.  On the long side, score at 2 ⅛” from each sides.
  • Bermuda Bay Cardstock – Cut three pieces – 1 ⅝” x 4 ¼”
  • Bermuda Bady Cardstock – Cut 2 ¾” x 2 ¾” (Scalloped Circle)
  • Golden Honey Specialty Designer Series Paper – Cut two pieces 1 1/2” x 4” of the same patterned paper, then cut one piece of a different pattern 1 1/2” x 4”
  • Whisper White Cardstock – Cut 5 ½” x 4” (inside of card), plus a scrap for the stitched Circle
  • Gold Foil – Cut 2 ¾” x 2 ¾”
  • Stampin’ Blends: Daffodil Delight Dark
  • Ink: Bermuda Bay & Tuxedo Black Memento
  • Tear & Tape

When you are adhering the three strips to the front of the card, the top and the bottom strip are adhered by putting two strips of Tear & Tape side by side on the back of the right hand side end and adhering it to the right panel.  The middle strip is adhered by placing two strips of Tear & Tape on the left hand side and adhering it to the left panel. Once you have adhered the three strips, take your pick of which bee you would like to put on the front…..and how you want to layer your circles.  Did you notice that all three are different??

Have a great day of stamping….and remember to put those cards in the mail!

Happy Stamping!
Patricia
