Most people think of the palette of fall colors by looking at the trees and the beautiful colors of the leaves that indicates cooler weather is coming…..yellows, oranges, reds, greens. I think of fall colors as the colors in the stadium of my favorite college football team….Virginia Tech Hokies. Chicago Maroon and Burnt Orange are the official school colors, so it’s only fitting that since it’s now football season and the stands will be filled with orange and maroon clad fans…..
….that my card use the same color palette.
It was an easy choice to make from the Gather Together Designer Series Paper.
This is a little close up of the paper I chose….it’s the only “maroon” one,….but it just so happens to have orange leaves!
But of course I had to make a few large leaves too! So I pulled out the coordinating Gather Together Stamp Set, Merry Merlot and Pumpkin Pie cardstock and inks and I was all set!
The sentiment is from another stamp set that is the 2019-2020 Annual Catalog called Country Home, but it was just what I wanted to say. I rounded the corners of my sentiment tag with the Detailed Trio Punch.
If you’d like to make this card, this is what you’ll need:
- Gather Together Stamp Set
- Gathered Leaves Dies
- Country Home Stamp Set
- Detailed Trio Punch
- Merry Merlot Cardstock – Cut 4 1/4” x 11”; Score and fold at 5 1/2”, plus a scrap cut 3” x 3” (leaf)
- Pumpkin Pie Cardstock – Cut 5 1/4” x 4”, plus a piece cut 3” x 3” (leaf)
- Come to Gather Designer Series Paper – Cut 5” x 3 3/4”
- Very Vanilla Cardstock – Cut 1 1/2” x 3”, plus a piece cut 5 1/4” x 4” (inside)
- Ink: Merry Merlot and Pumpkin Pie
- Adhesive: SNAIL, Stampin’ Dimensionals (leaves & sentiment)
- 1/4” Pumpkin Pie Cotton Ribbon (retired) – you can substitute a piece of Pumpkin Pie Cardstock – Cut 1/4” x 4”
Almost forgot! I also added a few stamped leaves to the inside too!
I used a little masking technique to stamp one leaf on top of the other. Stamp the leaf image on a Post-It Note making sure you stamp near the edge where it is sticky on the back. Using a your Paper Snips cut the image out right on the line. Stamp your first leaf image, then cover it up with your Post-it Note leaf and stamp again in with another color ink. (Don’t forget to clean off your stamp before you switch ink colors!!). Isn’t that easy?
Just a note: Stamp the image on your inside piece BEFORE you attach it to the card as you don’t want to get ink on the base card. I forgot to take a picture when I was actually stamping, so this is just to show you the technique!
