Press and Seal – Everyone should have this in their kitchen. Take a look at the box. It lists several great qualities – Leak proof, Airtight and Multisurface.
Why am I talking about Press ‘n Seal on a “card” blog? It’s because of that last quality….multisurface! Multisurface includes paper! Did you know that you can use this to make a Floating Frame card? Here is one that I made yesterday when a good friend and fellow Stampin’ Up Demonstrator came by for a little “craft time”. Actually, it’s the only one I’ve ever made. It was a trial run to see if we could use the technique without messing it up!
Can you tell that the flower background is “floating above the card? Every piece is attached using a Stampin’ Dimensional. Those little double sided adhesive foam “dots” are a crafter’s best friend for “popping up” elements on a card.
Wait, what happened to the middle?….welll here it is….ready to go on another card. I adhered the leftover oval to a Scalloped Oval piece of Gorgeous Grape Cardstock that was cut using the Layering Ovals Framelit Dies.
The stamp set that was used for the flowers and branches is called Tropical Chic and the accompanying die set called Tropical Thinlits Dies makes stamping and then cutting out all these flowers very easy.
I will put the basic instructions below, but you can do what I did and that is follow the directions in this video by Jennifer McGuire: Floating Frame Video
Floating Frame Card – Simplified Directions
- Stamp and cut out the pieces for your card.
- Use a 5 1/2” x 4 1/4” OR a 5 1/4” x 4” piece of Whisper White Cardstock
- Place your pieces on the front….leaving some white space. It’s ok to have some extend over the edges.
- Place a piece of Press and Seal over the top (sticky side down) and press lightly.
- Trim around the sides, cutting off the excess paper and pieces that extended over the sides.
- Peel off the Whisper White Cardstock – the pieces will stay on the Press & Seal.
- Use your die cutting machine and cut a shape (Circle, Oval, Square, Rectangle) out of the middle. It will cut through both the Press ‘n Seal and cardstock.
- On the back attach dimensionals to all the pieces and place on the front of your card.
- Stamp a sentiment in the middle.
- Use the extra piece to make another card!
