Yeah! It’s Mix-it-Up Monday again! Time to pick something that’s OLD (retired) and something that’s NEW (in the current catalog) and put them together and hopefully come up with something that’s worthy of posting about. I was about to give up….my brain just wasn’t being creative, when I remembered that I had purchased this a few months ago from the clearance rack – The Quilt Builder Framelit Dies.
The coordinating stamp set had already been retired so wasn’t available, but the beauty of these dies is that you don’t necessarily need the stamps….all you really need is some pretty designer series paper. My cousin Becky makes the most beautiful quilts and I imagine that she browses through the fabric store pulling out bolts of fabric searching for just the right colors and patterns….the same way I was browsing through my paper mixing and matching until the right combination just jumped out at me. This is what I came up with:
For this card, I used the the (OLD) 6” x 6” Quilted Christmas Designer Series Paper. The Merry Christmas Stamp is from the (NEW) Timeless Tidings Stamp Set.
And then I went back to my paper pile and looked for more possibilities. I love the stripes and polka dots of the (NEW) 2017-2019 In Color 6” x 6” Designer Series Paper, so I pulled that out and went with the mix of Call Me Clover and Blueberry Bushel.
But what to do with all the extra little pieces (the little squares and triangles that I didn’t use? Well, I just reversed what I filled in to make this card.
The white polka dots on the blue background remind me of looking out a window at the snow on a winter’s night. Of course that is wishful thinking on my part as in Virginia Beach, there is not usually much snow….if any.
I got the design idea from HERE…Randi’s Crafty Creations…..and then figured out what dimensions worked and how to put it together. If you’d like to make these cards, this is what you’ll need:
- Quilt Builder’s Framelit Dies
- Base Card: Cardstock – Cut 4 1/4” x 11”, Score at 5 1/2”. (Card #1 – Real Red , Card #2 – Call Me Clover, Card #3 Blueberry Bushel)
- Ist’ Layer Cardstock – Cut 5 3/8” x 4 1/8” (Card #1 Garden Green, Card #2 Blueberry Bushel and Card #3Whisper White)
- 2nd Layer Designer Series Paper (DSP) – Cut 5 1/4” x 4” (for cards #1 and #2) – use the square Framelit to cut a “Hole”
- Whisper White Cardstock – Cut 3 1/4” x 3 1/4” (to go behind quilt design)
- Cardstock for Quilt Design Frame – Cut 3 1/2” x 3 1/2” (Card #1 Real Red, Card #2 Call Me Clover, Card #3 Blueberry Bushel) For Card #1 & 2 see the next step. For Card #3, Just adhere the “frame” onto the whisper white cardstock.
- Designer Series Paper (your choice) to go inside the quilt design). The pieces are glued into the frame — (they’ll fit right in!) but first glue the “frame” onto the piece of whisper white cardstock and then glue this into the “square hole” that you cut into the Designer Series Paper.
- Scraps of Whisper White Cardstock and coordinating colored cardstock for the sentiment.
- Small Adhesive pearls – the blue ones were colored with the Night of Navy Dark Stampin’ Blend marker.
- Ink in coordinating color – Real Red and Blueberry Bushel
- 1/8” In Color Ribbon – Blueberry Bushel
- Your favorite sentiments
- Multipurpose Glue and a small sponge (for dabbing glue onto the “quilt frame”)
I’ve been looking at these leftover pieces — there is another card in the making somewhere in there. What do you think?

For the leaves, use your stamping blends to add dimension to your leaf cut-outs.
