Blowing in the Wind

Earlier this week, I finally got my anxiously awaited latest Stampin’ Up! order and two stamp sets that I have been wanting….one of which is this one.  Isn’t it cute?  I’d much rather see Dandelions like this than in my yard!  While I was waiting for the stamp set to arrive, I saw a new technique to try too that I thought would be fun…using Painter’s Tape to apply a background design.  The best part is that I have lots of Painter’s Tape from when we painted just about every room in our house a few years ago,  so I didn’t have to go buy any.

The technique is really simple.  I used 1” wide Painter’s tape, but you can use any width you’d like.  This is how you do it.

• Tear off a piece of the tape leaving enough room to hold it on either end.
• Lay the tape sticky side down on the ink pad (I did it lengthwise to get more coverage)
• Gently rub the tape.  The harder you rub,the more ink you’ll get on the tape.
•  Lift the tape off the ink pad and place it onto your cardstock
• Give it a little rub, then peel it off

One of the video’s I watched said to only use the Shimmery White Cardstock, but I used it on the regular Whisper White Cardstock and it worked fine….no sticking to the paper, so it was easy to remove.  For the first card I made, I used four different colors of ink: Pacific Point, Marina Mist, Pool Party, and Soft Sky.  The top two rows were done by stamping once, and then stamping again without re-inking.

This card was a little darker than I wanted, so I tried again and only used one ink color – Soft Sky.

If you want a really light background color, I would suggest using a very light color ink.  I used soft sky, but I think this would be beautiful using most any of the subtle colors.  If you use a darker ink, I would suggest “stamping off” on an extra sheet of paper first to remove some of the ink.  I just played around with it until I got the color I wanted.

Because the strip of paper I was using for the cards above was smaller, I also changed the direction of the stripes by placing my tape on that paper at an angle so I could get more stripes into the design.  (And I may have just adhered one upside down! — notice the stripes are going the opposite direction?? ) Once I had the background done, I just stamped my images right over top.  I also used Versamark ink to make a background on one card and just stamped with Soft Sky ink on the other.

The Painter’s Tape technique is really easy and the card goes together really fast.  I hope you’ll try it!

• Dandelion Wishes Stamp Set
• Whisper White Thick Cardstock/Soft Sky Cardstock – Cut 4 1/4” x 11”; scored at 5 1/2” (1st card) or  5 1/2” x 8 1/2”; scored at 4 1/4” (2nd card)
• Night of Navy Cardstock – Cut 5 1/4” x 4” (1st card) or 2 3/4” x 5 1/4” (2nd card)
• Whisper White Cardstock – Cut 5 1/8” x 3 7/8” (1st card) or 2 1/2” x 5 1/4” (2nd card)
• Ink Pads: Pacific Point, Marina Mist, Pool Party, and Soft Sky, Versa Mark (for background)
• Night of Navy Twine
• Snail Adhesive
