I Need Sunglasses

Every year when the new catalog comes out in June Stampin’ Up! introduces 5 new colors that will be part of their color palette….but only for two years.  The 2018-2020 colors this year are vibrant and bright and the one called Pineapple Punch is so sunny, I think I might need to wear sunglasses when I’m using it!  Here are the five new colors: Lovely Lipstick, Call Me Clover, Grapefruit Grove, Pineapple Punch and Blueberry Bushell.

Aren’t they bright and colorful?  When I first saw the new colors it reminded me of when I was in kindergarten and had gotten a box of new fat crayola crayons….there were only 5 in a box and I swear they were these colors!

To go along with these pretty colors, there is also a set of paper with these 5 colors – the 2018-2020 In Color 6×6 Designer Series Paper – all done in stripes and polka dots.  I LOVE Polka dots, so of course I am loving this paper too!  Each pack of this paper comes with 48 pieces of 6” x 6” double sided paper….4 each of 2 double-sided designs.76596F9A-6F32-4EEE-8B12-38142029CCEA

I knew i wanted to use this paper, just wasn’t sure how, so I thought I’d try it with one of the new stamp sets -Varied Vases.  This set also has a coordinating punch that will punch out three different sizes and shapes of vases, plus flowers and leaves (it actually took me a while to figure out that the “moon shaped slices” were leaves….at first I thought it was a plate to set the vase in….or maybe a shallow bowl.)

Anyway, I started off with this sketch for inspiration…there were three panels and three different vases, so I thought easy…one vase per panel.  F2BEFA15-BB22-4E2F-AE7F-09A81E90FDF7But it looked too white and then I thought it needed something across the bottom, and then I decided I didn’t like the three panels….so I made it one…and then I made the panel smaller….and then there was too much blank space….then I put in a circle shape…..nope make that an oval….but it needed more……and before I knew it…….I had this:CFD24A35-12EF-411A-89EA-7DA4D9F8F76F

Did you notice that it doesn’t look anything like the the design I started with?  So just to say that you don’t have to make your cards a carbon copy of what you see….go for it and experiment and keep trying until you have something you like!

Here is the same card….but in all the colors.C0D820ED-E193-4D11-9E45-6BE1115252BB

For the flowers in the Vase, I decided to color them myself rather than use the coordinating stamp to fill in the flowers because I wanted to vary the shade of the flowers….so I pressed down on the lid of my ink pad before I opened it and then used my aqua painter veeerrry carefully to add color to the flowers.

And here is a hint when you are using the Vases Builder Punch….especially if you are doing stripes or anything with a pattern.  Turn it upside down to punch it.  This way you can see if your stripes are lined up even….unless you purposely want them on a diagonal.

I did punch out all three vases even though I only used one….I stored all the extra in the case with the stamp set so they are ready to use for the next time.
